improving the instructional program
- Manages effectively the development, evaluation, and revision of the school’s instructional programming (Staff Check-Ins, Feedback survey, SIP monitoring, Needs Assessment)
- Emphasis on recruitment and selection of staff who have the interest and capacity to further the school’s vision
- Encouraged teachers to set goals and address areas of improvement using Instructional Rounds and monitoring of target students (Numeracy, Literacy and Well-Being strategies outlined, monitored interventions through EnCompass)
- Incorporate the explicit use of data when making decisions that relate to student learning and school improvement
- Attends PD regularly as part of the Professional Learning Academy focusing on topics such as Assessment, SIPSA Monitoring and EnCompass
An important lesson I have gathered as an Administrator thus far is that we must spend time with students to help improve student achievement. Being present in the classrooms, supporting teachers with instruction, following up with parent concerns, and ensuring that all resources align to the values we are setting out in our school community are essential practices to help improve the Instructional Program. Offering professional development based on teacher need, providing collaborative dialogue and opportunities and setting up systems where teachers are welcomed to go into each others classrooms to share best practices and learn and grow is essential in improving the instructional program in a school environment. Data is a catalyst for asking good questions about our instruction. Gathering data and making decisions based on that data will guide the movement and provide accountability of the direction of the instructional plan.
